About Scary Sharpening
Scary sharpening, a method of sharpening which uses sheet abrasives on glass is not a new idea, but it is a very effective, affordable and versatile method for sharpening chisels and plane blades - especially when using 3M lapping film.
Workshop Heaven introduced Scary Sharpening to the UK woodworking community in 2007 with the introduction of 3M lapping film, float glass and camelia oil assembled into a scary sharpening kit. Since then, the kit has evolved and is now offered with 3M microfinishing film which tends to be more durable, Shield Technology HoneRite Gold honing fluid to help with corrosion control and Richard Kell Honing Guides to give consistent sharpening results.
The popluarity of Scary Sharpening as a method of sharpening chisels and sharpening plane blades has grown over the succeeding years and now there are several grades of 3M lapping film and microfinishing film available for sharpening.
The Workshop Heaven Scary Sharpening Kit covers honing and grinding with the inclusion of the more aggressive 100 micron microfinishing film for grinding, 40, 30, 9 and 3 micron for day-to-day sharpening and some of the finest grades for situations where you need the ultimate cutting edge.
